These articles are written to be equally useful for the beginner of NLP and the NLP Trainer although some of the articles may be more advanced than others. If you find yourself reading an article that’s too advanced, give us a call or send us an email. We will be happy to clarify the issue for you.

Marketing Tricks: Article No.07

Before you decide to write a piece of advertising for your business, take a look at the next PR linguistic pattern. While it is short and seems not very complicated, do not underestimate its usefulness. People accept this pattern all the time mindlessly…maybe because it really has a mind numbing effect.
This pattern is similar with the previous pattern described in Article No. 6

Pattern No.7 – DRAWING FALSE CONCLUSIONS (Similar To Inappropriate Complex Equivalence)

In this linguistic pattern you start with a true proposition and end up with one that does not follow. You can use the process of lateral chunking to ease your way through using it with elegance.

All good and valuable NLP Coaching people who know what they’re doing are successful; therefore all people who are not successful did not study NLP.

Notice that the two sentences do not link. There is a “therefore” in between them, but the two do not belong together with an = sign in between. Other examples follow below.

I can’t make the kind of money I want so I wouldn’t be able to make money as a Coach.

I read lots of NLP Books for 20 years and know all there is to know about it; therefore I do not need anybody to tell me how to do NLP.

I post and read regularly on this NLP blog. I am pretty clear what NLP is all about – I don’t need to take any training

As an aside, this was a real utterance and unfortunately the person using the pattern did not have the slightest notion about HOW to do any of the techniques from the body of knowledge of NLP. In this respect, his theoretical self-professed knowledge was an interesting intellectual exercise without any practical application.

So if you intend to use the language pattern and expect a certain result, make sure you know what you are talking about.

To practice this pattern you can do the following. Take your daily paper, and look for articles where two sentences are somehow connected in a paragraph, however somehow they do not follow. This is called a non-sequitur.

Once you start noticing the patterns, then write an NLP statement followed by an affirmation that does not follow. As an example you can say something like…
I am not sure how to do Anchoring therefore I can’t be a good presenter.
OR
I don’t know how to do Swish Pattern therefore NLP does not work.
Other examples are…
I’ve done psychotherapy for 15 years therefore I don’t think anything could ever help me.
I don’t know how to drive a manual gear-shift car; therefore I can’t drive any cars.
