TV makes you “Brain-Dead” and is NOT “The Truth”, Even if You Believe it Is – Part 1

NLP | effect of television in your life

This video from the movie Network is 30 years old, yet even then it accurately portrayed the “truth” about TV, that it is one of the primary tools to manipulate your perceptions.

In fact, television programming is the most awesome propaganda mechanism in the entire world.

The video above is actually telling you the truth. It is telling you what is happening to you while you watch television. Here’s an important part of it:

” … Television is not the truth … Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers, and football players. We’re in the boredom-killing business.

“So if you want the Truth, go to God. Go to your gurus. Go to yourselves! Because that’s the only place you’re ever gonna find any real truth.

But, man, you’re never gonna get any truth from us … We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true! But you people sit there, day after day, night after night … We’re all you know! You’re beginning to believe the illusions we’re spinning here! You’re beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal …”

Our graduates from the NLP trainings begin to realize what language, what pictures and symbols are used in the television programs, in the advertisings, and the so-called reality shows to really “program” our minds to think in ta certain way, or even not to think at all but to take the messages and make them “our truth”. It is important to your future mentalhealth and even your health in general to be highly skeptical of anything you are viewing on TV. Think of it: all the programming on TV is controlled by large corporate entities that frequently have personal motives that are not aligned with your long-term best interests.

Nothing personal – it is just business!

You cannot blame them for that. For the corporations we are just consumers. And as such we need to “consume” as much as we can of what they sell.

But if you do watch TV it is helpful to ask what are they selling here, and who’s selling it? What are they really telling us and what is the message hidden behind the nice pompous words that we love to hear. And if you are not able to discern the meaning behind the meaning maybe you should learn how to do that. This is an important point that we teach over and over again in all our NLP Coaching trainings. And this is only one of the practical applications of NLP.

If you learn how to do this, you will actually install a strategy that will help you defend yourself against their very clever strategies. However, without training the mind, most of the time it will fail.

Do you think they employ incapable people? No they don’t. The people working for these networks and the corporations sponsoring the “news” employ some of the most brilliant marketing geniuses on the planet. If you have eyes to see, you can notice the results yourself!

Clearly the best option is to not watch it at all.

Oh no! Do not watch TV????
Can’t do that! Tonight is my favorite (Cop/reality/discovery/etc.) show!

If you just thought of that, I would like to submit that you are addicted to TV. If you cannot imagine not watching TV, you are addicted to the hypnotic relaxed state that television induces thought the rate of flickering. You are addicted to the virtual-reality life which seems to be different or more ˜real” than the reality of the world around you.

And yet, more and more people choose to give up the tube.

If you feel like you need to find out “what’s going on in the world” (as I do) consider this: do you really suppose the major stories that have dominated headlines and TV news have been “what isreally going on in the world?”

What is the purpose of news?

To inform you?

HA!

The primary purpose of news is to keep you in a state of “watch me more”. The networks know that if they scare us out of our pants, we will watch again and again and so we will be exposedto the same advertising over and over until our unconscious minds finally give up and “get it”. So we buy their products and adopt their ways of thinking. And the most interesting part is that we don’t even know what is happening to us.

Well, then what can you do instead?
This was my problem when I decided that I was sick and tired of the same scary, dark “news” and the same unashamed advertising for products I don’t want and I don’t need.

This becomes a process of discovery. What would you like to achieve?
Relaxation?
A little entertainment after a hard day of work?
Peace and quiet?
An “escape” from the hardship of the real world?

Well, there are a lot of other ways to achieve just that, which are much healthier for you. Different ways that enhance your health, your mind and ability to think clearly, ways that make you much happier and in a better mood.

Discover these new things, which you may have never done before!

Be well.

Great article and video clip. Very eye opening. In a world where TV’s are babysitters, teachers, companions, etc. it’s time to TURN THEM OFF! Agree with the video!

I totally agree that television is a waste of time, but I can’t stand the blasphemous man from the video using the G** D** words time and time again, he’s totally disrespectful, therefore the second time he repeated these horrible words, I turned off the video. This should not be promoted.

Great truth in that article Adriana, I gave up on TV many many years ago, and today I wonder how many things I have been able to create, achieve and who I was able to become with so much time and with my own thinking (and becoming an example for my kids :-). Who has time for TV anyway? 🙂 Thanks for sharing your great knowledge as always!
