“Marketing Tricks the BIG Companies Use to Fool You” Series Use the Same Tricks to Build Your NLPCoaching Business

These articles are written to be equally useful for the beginner of NLP and the NLP Trainer although some of the articles may be more advanced than others. If you find yourself reading an article that’s too advanced, give us a call or send us an email. We will be happy to clarify the issue for you.

Marketing Tricks: Article No. 14

Even if I am not a fan of traditional psychology, sometimes I read funny articles written by good people.

I just read today an article written by Simon Y. Feuerman, Psy.D., L.C.S.W. entitled “Why clueless people often do very well”

Here is an interesting part of that article and it is directly related to our next PR language patterns. It relates also to NLP, and behavioral adjustment….

“There is a school of thought that holds that people are as smart or as dumb as they “need” to be. People engage in behavior that is psychologically useful to them. A clueless woman will remain in the dark about her husband’s comings and goings because she may not want to see.”

Isn’t that true at least in part? Then it is relatively easy to understand why many people remain willfully ignorant of many things – it is an issue of self-interest.

Anyway, here is our next pattern.

Pattern No. 14 – ASK SOMEBODY WHO DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE AND CALL THEM AN EXPERT – when alleged experts are not in a position to know or are unreliable.

This is a pattern is used very often in commercials. For example in a commercial designed to sell energy drinks, we see a movie star or a star athlete who touts out the quality of the energy drink as s/he knows exactly what’s inside, and how specifically that drink will help you in so many different ways!

Here are two real life examples that make me chuckle.

My sister read Frogs into Princes and she told me all about it – she was very clear: NLP can’t possibly work. When we meet for the coaching, I hope you will let me talk and tell you everything that happened during the last week. I have been to psychologists before and I understand what NLP Coaching is all about.

Here is what you can do to make this PR language technique proactive:

First, watch the advertisements with a critical eye and ask yourself: is it possible that the person telling you how marvelous a product is, could possibly know its detailed manufacturing specifications and process? Are they really a specialist in that product?

This works very well when watching CNN… Or any other major news channel, depending where you are in the world.

Once you begin to notice the pattern, next write a little text for advertising your product or service (NLPCoaching, Training or anything else) using this technique. The purpose is to support this product, or to advocate a technique (like Time Line Therapy®).

Then learn to respond to an objection by using this technique.

Until next time, be well.
